[ ABOUT OUR PROGRAM ]
The Brookwood Community School Driver Education Program is licensed by the Georgia DMV Safety (License # DE 128) and is supported by course fees.
Driver's Education consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction. The course is limited to 30 students. To participate in these classes, students are required to have strong attention, behavior, and test-taking skills. The course fee is $345 and covers both the classroom and behind the wheel portions. Students must present to the Community School office a valid Georgia permit or license at the time of registration to be placed on the rolls for this course.
In order to maintain high quality and consistency of instruction and to follow State DDS guidelines, students are not permitted to miss any class sessions. However, circumstances do occur that may cause a student to miss a class. If a student were to miss a class they will receive a final grade of INCOMPLETE. It will be the student's individual responsibility to make up the missing session when the course is next scheduled. Certificates will not be issued until the class has been completed. If the student were to miss more than one classroom session, the student will be dropped from the course. The student will be added to the next available course and have to start over. Failure to show for the next course will result in loss of registration fee. Please enroll in a course that you know your teen can complete without absence. Upon successful completion of classroom and driving portions of the course, the student will receive a Certificate of Completion.
All Driver Education cars have automatic transmissions and are equipped with an instructor side brake and rearview mirror. This program meets the requirements for the Teen Driver's Education insurance discount. Cars are inspected by DMVS to meet state standards.
[ DRIVING PORTION- 6 hours behind the wheel ]
The behind the wheel instruction in this program is intended for students who have strong attention and behavior skills and intact sensory acuity. Behind the wheel instruction is one-on-one instruction in a specially equipped car with a second student in the back seat. Students are assigned to instructors in the order of earliest birth date.
Cancelled driving appointments result in lost instructional hours and delay the assignment of remaining students. Driving appointments must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a fee of $30 per hour of makeup time.
